Poverty and Inequality

Poverty means more than a low income: it can mean going without enough food, heating or basic goods. This section shows how many people live below the poverty line and in extreme poverty, how these shares change over time, and how they differ across the country.

It also looks at what people eat: how many calories a person consumes on average, how many people get fewer than 2,100 calories a day, and how many rely mostly on bread and potatoes.
