Employment by sector in 2024

The chart shows how many people were employed in each sector of the economy in 2024, in thousands, largest first. In total 1,176.1 thousand people were employed.

Three sectors stand out: public administration, education and health (270.9 thousand, 23.0%), trade, transport and food service (257.4 thousand, 21.9%) and agriculture (206.8 thousand, 17.6%). Together they account for 62.5% of all employed people.

Industry employed 151.8 thousand (12.9%) and construction 115.7 thousand (9.8%). The smallest sectors were real estate (4.3 thousand) and finance and insurance (21.0 thousand).
