About this metric
The labour force participation rate shows what share of the population is part of the labour force, that is, has a job or is looking for one. The chart shows it for the whole population and separately for women and men, from 2008 to 2024.
In 2024, 70.6% of men and 49% of women were in the labour force, a gap of 21.6 percentage points; the total was 59.1%. Women's participation was highest in 2013 (55.9%) and men's in 2014 (73.2%).
Women's rate fell from 52.8% in 2017 to 47.9% in 2018, the year armstat revised the labour force survey methodology, so the two periods are not strictly comparable. It was lowest, at 47.8%, in 2021. Men's rate stayed between 69% and 73.2% in every year.
