EEnlightUpdated: Dec 5, 2025

About this metric

This metric shows the share of young people aged 15-29 who are neither in employment nor in education or training (known as NEET), as a percentage of all people of that age, from 2008 to 2024. It is based on the Labour Force Survey.

In 2024, 23.3% of 15-29-year-olds were not in work or education: 15.0% of young men and 32.6% of young women. The rate for women was more than twice that for men, and it has been higher than the men's in every year since 2008.

The share has fallen from 40.2% in 2008 to its lowest level in 2024, for men (from 29.9%) and for women (from 48.5%) alike.
