About this metric
The chart shows how much freshwater each sector of the economy took in 2024, in million cubic metres, largest first. The sectors are the ones the table uses.
Of the 3,314 million cubic metres taken in total, fishing and fish farming took 1,306.6 and irrigation 1,216.7. Together they are 2,523.3, or 76.1% of the total, and in 2024 they equal the table's whole agriculture, forestry and fishing section.
Fish farming took 733 in 2023, so its 2024 figure is 78.3% higher. It is the only year since 2011, when the table starts, in which it exceeds irrigation. Water supply, sewerage and waste management took 677.4, mining 72.4, electricity and gas supply 17.2, manufacturing 16.1, other activities 6.9 and construction 0.7.
