Greenhouse gas emissions by gas
Thousand tonnes of CO2 equivalent (kt), inventory years
About this metric
This metric splits Armenia's greenhouse gas emissions by gas: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The chart shows each gas in kt of CO2 equivalent for the inventory years 1990 to 2022.
In 2022 carbon dioxide made up 55.9% of the 12.9 million tonnes total (7.2 million tonnes), methane 29.1% (3.8 million), HFCs 8.4% (1.1 million) and nitrous oxide 6.5% (0.8 million). Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) was 4.2 kt in 2022 and is not shown.
In 1990 carbon dioxide made up 80.0% of the total, 20.8 million tonnes against 4.3 million for methane. Methane was the larger of the two in 2000, 2005 and 2016, and since 2017 carbon dioxide has been larger in every year shown. HFCs have no value for 1990 and were 3.4 kt in 2000, but reached 1.1 million tonnes in 2022.
