About this metric

The chart shows how far the average air temperature of each year was from the 1961-1990 norm. The difference is shown in °C; the norm itself is 5.5 °C, worked out from the source's figures.

In 2024 the average temperature was 1.7 °C above the norm. Of the 25 years from 2000 to 2024, 23 were above it, 2007 matched it, and only 2011 was below, by 0.2 °C.

The warmest years were 2010 (+2.7 °C) and 2018 (+2.5 °C). Every year since 2014 has been above the norm by at least 0.8 °C, and every year since 2018 by at least 1.4 °C.
