EEnlightUpdated: Sep 11, 2025

About this metric

The 2022 census asked each household for its main source of heating. The chart shows the share of households for each answer in Armenia as a whole, in urban areas and in rural areas. Shares are calculated out of all 857,545 households, including the 10,014 (1.2%) that did not state a main source.

Across Armenia, 51.8% of households use an individual heating system running on natural gas or electricity. Next come the wood stove (16.3%), the gas stove (13.4%) and the electric heater (7.8%). An individual wood heating system is the main source for 5.2% of households and central heating for 1.7%. 7,993 households (0.9%) have no main heating.

Towns and villages differ. In urban areas 63.8% of households use an individual gas or electric system, in rural areas 24.3%. In rural areas wood is the main source for 55.6% of households: 42.6% with a wood stove and 13.0% with an individual wood heating system.
