Population by age and sex
Permanent population, number of people, 2022 census
About this metric
The age and sex structure of the population shows how many children, people of working age and older people a country has, and it shapes what society needs, from schools to pensions. The chart shows the permanent population in five-year age groups, men and women separately, from the 2022 population census.
The census counted a permanent population of 2,932,731 people in Armenia: 1,384,481 men and 1,548,250 women. The largest age group is people aged 30-34 (233,984), while the groups aged 15-29 are noticeably smaller than those both younger and older.
Up to the age of 24 there are more boys than girls; from 25 onwards women outnumber men, and the gap widens with age. Among people aged 85 and over, women outnumber men more than two to one: 23,622 women and 11,330 men.
