Pupils per teacher

Pupils per teacher in general education schools, state and private together

EEnlightUpdated: Jun 12, 2026

About this metric

The ratio of pupils to teachers is a rough measure of how many children each teacher has. It is the total number of pupils in general education schools divided by the total number of teachers, state and private schools together.

In 2018 there were 12.2 pupils per teacher. The ratio rose to 14.7 in 2023, the highest of the years shown, then eased to 13.7 in 2024 and 13.5 in 2025.

Earlier years are left out: the source's number of teachers drops sharply in 2018, so the ratio before and after that is not comparable.
