EEnlightUpdated: Jun 12, 2026

About this metric

The number of students shows how many young people choose higher education, and how they are split between state and non-state institutions. The chart shows students in first-degree programs of higher education at state and non-state institutions, each year from 2010 to 2025. Master's students are counted separately.

In 2025, 78,897 students studied in first-degree programs: 66,035 at state institutions and 12,862 at non-state ones. The total was highest in 2010, at 111,003, and lowest in 2019, at 64,547.

Since 2019 the total has grown, apart from a small dip in 2021. State institutions went from 55,244 students in 2019 to 66,035 in 2025, and non-state ones from 8,127 in 2018 to 12,862 in 2025.
