About this metric
Births and deaths decide how a population changes without migration. The chart shows the births and deaths registered in Armenia each year since 1980, and their difference, the natural increase. These are absolute numbers, not rates per 1,000 residents.
Births peaked at 81,192 in 1986. They fell sharply during the 1990s and reached 32,065 in 2001, recovered to 44,825 in 2010, then declined again. In 2025, 31,997 children were born, the lowest figure of the years shown.
Deaths were highest in 2020, at 36,170, almost as many as births (36,353), so the natural increase that year was only 183. In 2025 there were 25,642 deaths and a natural increase of 6,355. Births have exceeded deaths in every year shown, but the gap has narrowed from 53,200 in 1980.
