How households dispose of garbage

The chart shows how households in Armenia dispose of their garbage, according to the 2022 census. Shares are calculated for all households in Armenia, in urban areas and in rural areas, and the base includes households whose method is not stated (1.1% in Armenia).

Of 857,545 households, 79.9% throw garbage in a regularly emptied bin: 83.8% in urban and 71.1% in rural areas. 5.0% use a sorting bin (6.1% urban, 2.6% rural), and 3.7% a building garbage chute, which exists only in urban areas (5.3% of urban households).

Rural households more often use other options: 10.5% an irregularly emptied bin (2.3% urban), 13.0% another method (0.9% urban) and 2.7% an unplanned place (0.1% urban). Across Armenia these are 4.8%, 4.6% and 0.9%. The source does not explain what "other" means.
